Building an Engineer Day
Building an Engineer (BAE) Day is coming soon! The event will occur on Saturday, November 5 from 8:00am-3:00pm. On this day, middle school students have the opportunity to participate in four different 50-minute engineering labs. These labs are designed and facilitated by various Cal Poly engineering clubs and are very fun! The purpose of BAE Day is to create more interest in math and science among students at the middle school age.
We need your help! Please consider volunteering for this event! There are two types of volunteers for BAE: General Help and Group Leader. Please see the volunteer type descriptions below.
General Help:
· Help set up/tear down
· Help with check-in
· Ensure clubs and their labs are running smoothly
· Help clubs with their labs (if needed)
Group Leaders:
· Lead groups of 20-25 students to labs (2 group leaders are assigned per group)
· Help students during labs (previous knowledge about lab is not required -- you will learn on the day of!)
· **Preferred: available to stay during the entire event (8:00am-3:00pm)**
Please considering volunteering for this event! BAE Day is very fun and is a great outreach opportunity! Feel free to invite others who are interested in volunteering. Volunteers will receive breakfast, lunch, and a BAE Day volunteer t-shirt.

High School Shadow
Remember when you were deciding upon which colleges and universities to apply to? Remember wishing you could stay in the dorms and live the college life for a day or two? SWE provides that opportunity, and we need your help!!!
The High School Shadow program was created by Cal Poly SWE to give high school students a taste of a true college experience. Students will shadow a college engineering student for a day—attending their classes, eating at the campus hot spots, staying overnight in the dorms, and getting all questions about college life at Cal Poly answered!
High School Shadow will be held:
Thursday, November 17, 2011 - Friday, November 18, 2011.
Check-In will begin at 10:30 AM on Thursday (11/17).

Triathlon Volunteer Opportunities
The Cal Poly Triathlon Team is one of the largest and most active sports clubs on our campus, with over 100 members. We help students achieve their goals in the sport of triathlon—whether it’s crossing the finish line for the first time or stepping up to the podium—regardless of their previous experience in triathlon. For the 7th year running, we take pride in hosting our annual race, March Triathlon Series, which takes place at the stunning Lake Lopez in Arroyo Grande, CA on Saturday March 24, 2011. Our goals this year include increasing our Green and Sustainability practices, as well as giving participants a memorable, challenging, and enjoyable race experience.
However, this race is purely a product of volunteers. Without people to generously donate time and effort, we would not be able to hold such an event. This being said, I would like to invite you/your club/team/friends/etc. to consider volunteering on race day with us! Volunteering is a great way to experience the world of triathlon up-close and it is greatly appreciated by all race participants.
Volunteer duties include:
• Body marking athletes
• Directing traffic
• Directing racers in and out of transition area and on the course
• Watching out for the safety of racers on the course
• Handing out waters at aid stations on the bike and run courses
• Helping to remove timing chips at the finish line
• Cheering on all the amazing participants
Volunteers will receive:
• Free camping the night before
• Free breakfast and lunch
• Free parking
If you would like more information or are interested in donating your time, please email me at marchtriseriesvolunteer@gmail.com, or feel free to give me a call, (951)265-8093.
Looking forward to hearing from you!
Thank you!
